Dr. Robert Peers, B.Sc., M.Sc., MD, FRCSC  Philosophy of Dr. Peers“I believe that cosmetic surgery should be an enhancement or refinement which compliments the patient's lifestyle and self-image rather than a radical change. The plastic surgery consultation should be an unbiased discussion and examination, just like any other medical examination. It must be done with honesty and integrity. It should not be a sales or promotional event. The patient's interests and well-being should be the prime goal of the consultation. The problem should be examined, discussed, and treatment options (including their chances of success, and also the risks) are reviewed. When possible operations with a proven track record are used. "Trendy" operations are often just that, and have less chance of long term patient satisfaction. While surgery may assist in elevating self-esteem and appearance it cannot be expected to be life altering. Severe psychological problems such as depression or self-image problems will not be solved by image altering operations.” Qualifications Dr. Peers is a cosmetic plastic surgeon with 27 years experience in private practice. He graduated from University of British Columbia (UBC) with a B.Sc. and M.Sc. in microbiology, followed by an M.D. A five year specialty training in plastic surgery at Vancouver General Hospital/UBC. Dr. Peers holds a Fellowship in the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada in the specialty of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. Dr. Peers is on active staff at Burnaby General Hospital and consulting staff at Lion's Gate Hospital and Surrey Memorial Hospital. He also holds Private hospital privileges at Delbrook Surgical Center and Metrotown Surgical Center. He is past Chairman for the Department of Surgery of Burnaby Hospital and Past Chairman of the Plastic Surgery Section of the British Columbia Medical Association.
