When you have made the decision to have a cosmetic procedure you should look for doctor who is right for you.

Here are a few tips:

It is important to pick a doctor who will answer your questions, and who will make you feel both comfortable and informed. The surgeon should be open and honest in answering your questions. You may want to write down your questions in advance so nothing is missed.

drp-office.jpgThe Royal College of Surgeons of Canada (who regulate surgical training and examinations for Canadian doctors) does not have a specialty category or training programme called "cosmetic" or "aesthetic" surgery. This specialty has been traditionally part of the training and examinations for Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. In recent years non-plastic surgeons have adopted the title of "cosmetic surgeon". This has no official standing with the licensing authorities and therefore has no requirements for training or examination of competence. A doctor with a certification or fellowship from the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery has had a minimum of five years of plastic surgery training, which includes cosmetic surgery. This certification can be checked through either the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada or the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia. Most surgeons with this certification will have it on display in their office. The Canadian Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons and the Canadian Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons require their members to have full training and certification in Plastic Surgery. There are other cosmetic organizations that do not have this requirement! It is up to the patient to check this out.

Dr. Peers is certified by the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, operates only in accredited surgical facilities, adheres to a strict code of ethics, and regularly attends continuing medical education courses.
